2014 POWER X-TRAVAGANZA (Part 7)

NOW SHIT JUST GOT REAL

Top 40, kids!  This is where your monthly Power X would kick in, but for the X-Travaganza, we go for the gusto (monthly Power Xs are also done in a single part).  Probably some controversy here, pretty much name recognition is high from here on in, and there’s going to be a lot of women who felt they should have ranked higher.  You’re certainly allowed to believe that of course, but I have scientific data that says you’re wrong.

#40: DJ REIHA LAINE
2014 Record: 7-3
Laine came in hot, shooting up the ladder by winning her first seven matches, most notably scoring a fall on Syren in June to advance to the finals for the Chase for the Crown.  Unfortuantely, it was all downhill from there for the DJ, who slowed down after dropping the finals to Nessa Wall, and was last seen in a losing effort to Mel Avilo in September.

#39: SUMMER
2014 Record: 4-5
The return and attempt to jump to the Evolution division was not a kind one for the once dominant television champion, who struggled every step of the way.  She did pick up a nice win over Madelyne McTaggert, but finished the year with a punishing three match losing streak, including kissing goodbye her chances in the Femme For All and a crack at the Evolution Championship.  She took a lot of punishment in 2014, but considering she just decided to take her talents to a company that threw her under the bus less than a year ago, perhaps she’s a glutton for it.

#38: DESTINY CAMPBELL
Ranked 58th in 2013
2014 Record: 4-3
You wanna talk about someone coming out of fucking NOWHERE, let’s talk about the current Ultraviolence Champion.  On June 1st, Destiny Campbell’s career was dead in the water, as she was nothing but one half of a failed tag team in Art of Violence.  Then an upset win over Penny Buchanan, an upset win over Emma MacNamara, and an upset win over Kate Steele, and Destiny is carrying the UV belt into 2015, where she’s already retained once, and will almost certainly be much higher on this list next year.

#37: NESSA WALL
2014 Record: 4-2
Nessa’s long awaited official debut in FFW was nothing short of a disaster, as she found herself out of nowhere being rolled up for a pin by Fujiko Mine for a monster upset.  Fortunately for Nessa, she rallied back, and pulled through to win the sixth Chase For the Crown.  Unfortunately, she came up short in her bid to dethrone Kelly, but did get a nice consolation win over Jennifer Williams at Sin & Sacrifice.

#36: ARABELLA BLACK
Ranked 65th in 2013
2014 Record: 2-3-1
Arabella spent the opening months of 2014 chasing the Evolution Championship, and even managed to take out Jennifer Williams in the Elimination Chamber at Chaos Theory, although she was taken out by Aimee Easter not long after.  She formed the memorable Trios Team Zombie Chainsaw Massacre, but disappeared after a revenge match against Easter came up short at Relentless.  She’s back now, but as part of the Femme Fatales, so it’s not exactly like people are all that happy to see her.

#35: EMMA MACNAMARA
Ranked 16th in 2013
2014 Record: 4-6
Emma had three chances in 2014 to get herself an Ultraviolence Championship shot, and while she looked good all three times, only came through on the last at Anarchy (and then lost to Destiny Campbell, but that’s this year).  While she did beat Undine twice, technicians were the bane of Emma, as she dropped matches to Kinsey, Lightning, and, most infamously, Wendy Briese in a Falls Count Anywhere match.

#34: SYREN
2014 Record: 8-3
The self-proclaimed “Greatest Female Wrestler in the world” has a LONG way to go before she can even think of justifying those claims, but it was a productive first year for Syren, who enters 2015 one half of the Unity Number One Contenders, and holds wins over Jodie Gray and DJ Laine.  She’s still kicking herself over letting her chance to make the finals of the Chase slip away though.

#33: MISTY WHITMORE
Ranked 14th in 2013
2014 Record: 4-4
Misty entered 2014 the television champion, and spent the first part of the yeaer holding the belt before losing it to Kelly in eaerly March.  After failing to reclaim it at Relentless, she slowly became seen less and less, although she did pick up a nice win over Summer at Unstoppable.

#32: CASEY ATHERTON
Ranked 17th in 2013
2014 Record: 7-2
You could call Casey the ultimate team player- every single one of her matches but one (a win over Ignis in March) was a tag match, and she was instrumental in helping Triple Threat both win the titles at Relentless and regain them in November.  Atherton’s pretty much cemented herself as the best tag team specialist FFW has to offer right now, although she’s more than held her own on a singles front too.

#31: JODIE GRAY
Ranked 23rd in 2013
2014 Record: 7-6
Down here for the Breakout Star? Yup.  Jodie likes to dream big, and makes no secret of her aspirations, but the fact is, Jodie’s yet to make any of those dreams a reality, and no amount of Future Shock success can change the fact her record shows she's not as good as she thinks she is.  She’s beaten Serafina, sure, but she also has losses to Jo, Syren, Kinsey, and Lightning, and FFW Championship runs aren’t based on consistently losing those kinds of matches.  But evidently all that talk’s convinced Samantha Star more than it’s convinced the fans, the girls in the locker room, or me, so she’s got a big chance against Val to start the year.  Let’s see how she takes it.  After all, Mika was down about here last year (27th), and we all saw what happened.
