FOUR CORNERS: Breaking Point 1.10.15 (Honolulu, HI)

NOW AVAILIBLE IN EMMA, KATE, AND PENNY FLAVORS

Welcome back to the return of the FOUR CORNERS- a look at the four biggest takeaways from last nights Breaking Point show.

FFW hit the ground running in 2015, with a Championship match, a dream main event, a couple of new talents revealing themselves, and a discussion of the bosses that has left quite a few people talking.

Oh, and the legendary return of the Power X.

But hey, I’m not here to toot my own horn (that’s what Twitter’s for).  I’m here to give you all the lowdown of what we just saw.  So without further delay…

#1: DESTINY CAMPBELL IS THE BEST ULTRAVIOLENCE CHAMPION SINCE CARA STONE
The Ultraviolence Divison has been a realm of turmoil over the past couple of years, with the belt changing hands seven times since the dawn of 2013- more than any other title in the company.  After the seeming dominance of Cara and Camilla, it’s been a division of chaos, where a reign’s been about as safe as your average forehead capillary in a Crimson Masks match.

Kate Steele did have an essence of longevity, but idea of Kate Steele being secure in any role is almost an antithesis to her very being.  Destiny, on the other hand (and the emergence of Isabella as the UV commissioner may be helping this), has come almost literally out of nowhere to become the new driving force of the division.  Destiny’s won five of her last six (the only loss coming to the Rudos, when she and Natalya found out that they have a long way to go when it comes to the art of the screwjob), and with her victory over Emma, she’s defeated the three most prominent names the divison’s had over the past couple years.

Sylvia Crowley’s apparently next on the Challenger Dockett, but I don’t see her being capable of ending Destiny’s reign.  Both women are certifiably insane, but in wrestling, it helps if there’s a method to your madness.  Destiny has that- she’s as calculating as they come, while Sylvia is just simply wildly neurotic.  In a warzone like a flaming tables match, it helps to be two steps ahead, and the poet’s shown herself adept at doing that, while it’s tough to envision any scenario that involves Sylvia as going any further than struggling to play catchup.

Destiny was one of the biggest surprises of 2014, and not altogether a pleasant one.  But don’t be surprised if she starts approaching longevity records in 2015, until we can find someone capable of keeping up with her.

#2: KATE STEELE WILL BE THE EVOLUTION CHAMPION IN 2015
Honestly, how can she not be?  Kate thrives on screwing things up, and, well, nothing would screw up the second-highest division in FFW more than Kate motherfucking Steele taking the reigns!

Here’s the thing- Kate’s polarizing, and that’s the kindest thing you can say about her personality.  But the maturity she’s developing in the ring is hard to overlook, no matter how much we want to.  She’s gone from losing twice as many matches as she won in 2013 to having a winning record in 2014.  While I don’t see her being dominant in 2015, the fact of the matter is, if she can put enough together to nab a couple UV reigns in the past couple years, why can’t she do the same in the Evo division?

Either way, Kate’s big audition comes in two weeks, when she faces the champion herself in a nontitle match.  If she can beat Easter, or even force the champ into desperation tactics, she’ll be well on her way.  If not- it’s going to be a much longer, harder road.

But when has Kate done the easy way in anything?

#3: YEAH THAT VOTE WAS RIGGED.
Here’s the thing.  I’m a political guy, and I follow elections quite closely.  There’s a district in my home state of Washington- the 7th, to be precise.  The district comprises most of inner Seattle, including Queen Anne’s hill, Pike Place, the International District, and SoDo.  It is one of the most fanatically liberal Democrat Party strongholds in the country, hasn’t ever elected a Republican, and won’t for another 100 years.  You can’t even wear red in the 7th around election time without being spit on and having coffee dumped on your head.

I say this, because the 7th Representative, Jim McDermott, only won that district with 80% of the vote.  And there is no way in fucking HELL that Cody Kincaid (13%) is less popular among the FFW Faithful than a Republican is on First Hill (19.5%).  Never in a million years.

Seems to me if you’re going to rig a vote, you’d have yourself winning with 51-52% of it, so it looks a little more legit.  Putting yourself to a 6-1 margin?  Nope.  That’s third world dictator level horseshit.

At least all accounts suggest that Samantha Star doesn’t take much stock in the vote after what she just saw.  She gave a fair, yet brutal review of both her charges last night, and should stick with her own instinct, not with any shock poll that was clearly not on the level.

#4: EIGHTEEN DAYS
It seems weird to be thinking about a Velocity nearly three weeks away now, with three entire shows between now and then, but this show coming up on the 29th is just too damn big to be ignored.  You saw the intensity in all four women’s faces last night as the show drew to a close.  I was standing ringside, and I could feel it.  Even Wendy Briese, the biggest proponent of not fighting outside of matches you could get in FFW, seemed on the verge of just leaping at someone and just wildly swinging.  None of these women like each other that much, and when you’re upping the stakes the way Cody’s done… it’s creating almost stunning tension.

You throw in a Val-Scarlett match, and this becomes, quite literally, the most intense television show in FFW history.  Never before has the FFW Champion and THREE guaranteed contenders competed on the same night, along with two more having opportunities to play their way back into title shots of their own.  Scarlett will be the champion on January 30th, but she might find herself drowning in challengers far more than she could have ever expected.

As for you guys, all I can recommend is that you go to the bathroom early, and have your snacks and drinks all prepared out.  You’re looking at a goddamn wild show.

Got something to say about the Power X? Go ahead. But be careful, Daniel Pollaski WILL respond- and he makes people cry for a living.
