INCOMING! ONE NIGHT STAND Preview, Part 3

SILVER AND GOLD.  SILVER AND GO- WAIT... THEY DON'T MAKE SILVER TITLE BELTS?  JUST GOLD THEN.

If the bottom of the card showcased the new talent, while the middle of the card showcased the rising stars, the upper card is all about the belts, baby.  Four of them, up for grabs in an interesting array of matches that will make up the true meat of One Night Stand.  Three of the contests consist of rematches in one form or another, and some of the company's biggest, fiercest rivalries will be highlighted next Saturday night.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: The Ultraviolence Championship, which Alysson won at Anarchy and successfully defended against Kate Steele in the last show of the year.  Marla got her shot via dominating Season 11, the Ultraviolence Season, defeating Natalya Demidov and Lana Star in the Thunderdome, and again beat Natalya in her official debut.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: If you read part 2 carefully enough, you already know my prediction for this match, and boy did I get a backlash for it.  But... but... Marla's a rookie and Alysson's experienced and a way better wrestler and... agreed.  BUT (and,  it's a bigger but than Rose Jenkins), there's something about Marla that makes her more dangerous than your typical rookie, even a Future Shock Champion.  She's broken the system.  She's using cheat codes, and there's nothing anyone can do about it because Marla has taken the "anything goes" aspect of the Ultraviolence division to such an extreme that I don't think its possible for anyone- and that includes Alysson, to properly be prepared for it.  For Lee, this isn't a match so much as a trap waiting to snap shut on Gardner, who's going to be unable, and probably unwilling, to do what it would take to break it.  Do I like it?  No.  Do I hope whatever happens backfires on Marla so thoroughly she gets launched into orbit?  Yes.  Am I holding my breath?  Nope

PROJECTED WINNER: Marla Lee

WHATS AT STAKE: The Unity Championships, defended for the first time by the Brew, who won the belts on November 9.  The Meanest Girls have made zero secret since they joined in July that they were gunning for the Unity, and have shot up the tag ranks, although they were defeated in their last tag match by the Rockin' Kittens.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: It's tough to sneeze at the Blondetourage- you can't combine talent and arrogance and flat out bitchiness into two people that easily.  But here's the problem- Witches Brew has been dealing with shit like this from day one, particularly Sunny, who's been clobbered upside the head by a briefcase and placed in an attempted burro-scheisse video.  Which leaves you wondering- what is it that the Meanest Girls can do that the Brew hasn't already managed to overcome?  I'm sure there's an answer somewhere, but until I hear it, I'm thinking it's going to be a booty shaking night.

PROJECTED WINNER: Witches Brew

WHAT'S AT STAKE: The Evolution Championship, won by Easter at Anarchy and defended for the first time as Eileen cashes in her rematch clause.  Which means the winner gets a nice two month reign before walking into the total crapshoot that is the Elimination Chamber.  Oh, and something about Eileen's boyfriend actually being a plant by Easter who betrayed her at Anarchy which, combined with the title loss, mindfucked her into a complete breakdown lasting nearly the entire month of December and emerging only at WWC when Eileen turned up a giant seething ball of Tsunamirage.  ...Saying stuff like that just is weird without Crystal Hilton's name being involved.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: Yeah, here's the funny thing about the 'nice' girls of wrestling, such as Amaro, Whitmore, Briese, etc.  They're actually not all that fun to be around when they're ragingly pissed off, and they're even less fun to be around when they're ragingly pissed off and have carte blanche to beat the ever loving holy hell out of you.  So Aimee's basically facing a rageball who has no restrictions on what she can do to her, and the champions advantage is eliminated.  Aimee's best hope is to either use Eileen's rage against her, and goad her into doing something stupid, or to fall back on her fellow T.R.U.T.H members to screw things up, in which case I totally volunteer to second Eily myself because Tommy makes a funny little chirping sound when you punch him in the face.  Aimee's about to learn that mindfuckery always comes at a price.

PROJECTED WINNER: Eileen Amaro

WHAT'S AT STAKE: Anytime the website says there's a rumor that this is a #1 Contenders match... It's a number one contenders match.  Also a rematch of one of the most momentous matches of 2013, the Femme For  All Semifinal when Mika stunned Camilla to advance, and essentially vault herself like three tiers up on the FFW Totem Pole.  It was also the latest in a growing line of disappointment for Pazzini, who struggles to recover from a VERY mediocre 2013 and back to winning ways in 2014.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: So mediocre, that I'm a bit surprised this is being talked about as a potential #1 Contenders match to the FFW Championship, because, in all honesty, Camilla just hasn't been all that good since her sister injured her a year ago.  Meanwhile, the popular opinion seems to be that Demidov got lucky, and isn't really a Femme For All Finalist quality wrestler- although that probably has to do more with the fact that people just don't like her than any realistic assessment of her talents.  Either way, Mika's going to have another chip on her shoulder, and unless Camilla's screwing over of Val at Anarchy and subsequent tirade was her erasing some sort of mental block, I think she's in prime shape for another 'upset'.

PROJECTED WINNER: Mika Demidov

WHAT'S AT STAKE: The FFW Championship, of course, won by Wendy from Val at Sin & Sacrifice, and successfully defended against the same at Anarchy- although primarily due to a cheap shot by Val's former friend Camilla Pazzini, which gave Val this additional chance.  Scarlett's in due to winning the Femme For All, making this a triple threat dream match where the winner takes home the hardware.   And the distinction of being Queen of the Gingers.  And, quite honestly, it's a triple threat dream match that I'm not sure we'll ever see in this context again, so emerging with bragging rights is going to be pretty important here.

EXPERT ANALYSIS:  This one is so tough to call, because you are honestly looking at three women so similar, it's going to be tough to seperate them (For those in the cheap seats, Wendy will have green, Scarlett red, and Val purple).  Val's the most powerful, but probably the weakest high flyer.  Wendy's the best technician and submissionist, but the worst on power, while Scarlett's probably the best high flyer, but weakest on submissions.  But even in those categories, there is very little separation.  Ultimately, this will come down to whoever comes through in the clutch.  I never pick against my client, and I won't now, but unless you have a vested emotional interest in one competitor or another, my best advice to you is to sit back and watch what might be the best pure wrestling match in FFW history.

PROJECTED WINNER: Wendy Briese

INCOMING!: ONE NIGHT STAND Preview: Part 2

YOU CAN HAVE CLASS!  YOU CAN BE A CONTENDER!  YOU CAN BE SOMEBODY INSTEAD OF A BUM... WHICH YOU ARE!

A couple days ago, we previewed the lower third of the One Night Stand Card.  Now we move into the midcard, with five matches, four of which will decide a contender for either the NS, UV, Evo, or Unity Belts.  Throw in a grudge or two, and you could be damn well exhausted from cheering before we even hit the top third!

WHAT'S AT STAKE: Uh, the loser has to kiss the winner's feet, which, honestly, probably will be a better deal for Candi than it would for Lozano.  Lozano's feet seem alright, but I bet Candi's feet smell and taste like old plastic.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: You know, I absolutely LOVE it when a woman struts around the company acting like she owns the place, verbally abusing her colleagues and physically abusing cameramen and FFW Executives I had never seen before in my life despite being here for three years, all before she's even won her first match.  Candi's not the brightest candle on the menorah, but she at least seems to be more grounded in reality than Valentina, who's probably going to snobbily be a bitch all the way to her third consecutive loss.

PROJECTED WINNER: Candi

WHAT'S AT STAKE:  The long awaited rubber match between these two rivals, and while the first two contests were decided by submissions, this one will have to be.  Bragging rights to the winner, humiliation to the loser, and oh yeah, now a shot at the No Surrender Championship is on the line, which squarely puts the entire division in Savage's corner.  Seriously.  And it's not because they're afraid of Sullivan.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: Neither woman had anywhere close to a stellar record in 2013, and neither woman's competed in FFW since October.  In the meantime, Savage has been over in SVW driving poor Colleen batshit, while Sullivan's apparently been driving Caroline Stark batshit, for entirely different reasons.  Ultimately, it comes down to what stunt Mileena's going to pull, and how prepared Sullivan will be for it. Considering Sullivan's cluelessness, being prepared's never been much of a strong point for her.

PROJECTED WINNER: Mileena Savage

WHAT'S AT STAKE: One free ticket to get their ass kicked by
Marla Lee
at Chaos Theory.  Oh, and Undine and Hexstar kind of like each other.  Undine and Emma kinda like each other.  Everyone else hates each others guts, and wants to spill them piping hot and slippery all over the wrestling mat.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: The last time we had one of these, Gigante won relatively easily.  But she didn't have to worry about Undine, Emma, or Kate then, so ramp that challenge factor up considerably.  Emma's been in a bit of a slump, but she'll likely make damn sure Kate doesn't win, either.  Factor in that you just don't know which Kate is going to show up, and the fact that Undine has looked DAMN good the last couple matches, and it's tough to vote against the Aquablonde.

PROJECTED WINNER: Undine

WHAT'S AT STAKE: Number one contendership for the tag titles.  Also, the Rudos are looking to remain undefeated in two on two contests.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: KO/TO baffles me.  You have Serafina, one of the longest reigning title holders in FFW history, and a formidable Claire Black, yet the sum of the parts seems to be greater than the whole.  Every time you think they're about to make a run, they stumble, but every time you think the team's run it's course, they pull off a strong win.  That being said, it's really tough to beat the Rudos, who are among the loosest wrestlers in the company- they don't seem all that responsive to pressure, positive or negative.  Either way, look for this to be one of the best matches of the evening, and will likely hinge upon whether the Rudos can throw KO/TO off their game.

PROJECTED WINNER: Rudo Galactica

WHAT'S AT STAKE: This one's been brewing for a while, and a shot at the Evolution Championship awaits the winner- which really puts Easter's claim that the Evolution Division is the best in the company on some rocks.  Arabella had all of five matches last year, J-Will's lost three of her last four (dating clear back to July), and while Samara just had a six match win streak broken, she's dull as fuck when she's not ruining Future Shock matches.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: Most statistical models are pointing to Samara, who will be the clear favorite entering the night, largely in thanks to the aforementioned streak and Femme For All run.  That would be unfortunate, especially should Easter retain.  I can't think of a more unappealing match-up than two of the most unlikeable women in the company fighting over the Evolution Championship.  For an alternative, you could look at Williams, who's nicknamed Big Match Jenny for a reason.  But while Arabella is a clear dark horse, she's capitalized in her share of big matches as well- the Future Shock Cup, against Mileena, and a huge win over Kat Stryfe.  That's why I'm predicting the uspet special here.

PROJECTED WINNER: Arabella Black

INCOMING! One Night Stand Preview, Part 1 (Milwaukee, WI)

SLIGHTLY LESS EMBARRASSING THAN LOSING TO SHAELIN O'HARA
Alright.  So with just eleven days to go until FFW's first Pay-Per-View Special of the year (and perhaps the most anticipated match in company history), tensions are running high.  Fifteen matches are set to go down, with forty women stepping into that ring over the course of the evening.  Four titles are on the line, while three belts will also be deciding their next contender.  Add in a few grudge matches, a little bit of filler, and viola!  A card for the ages.

With such a big card, a simple incoming column just isn't good enough, so we'll be going a bit more in depth here.   As such, we'll also be dividing it up into three sections, with today's focusing on the lower third of the card.   A lot of new wrestlers are in here, as well as some of our less... successful ones.

Yeah, lookie.  We have our own graphics here.  Not as awesome as FFW's, but hey.  I'm a columnist, not a graphix artist.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: Ah, the feeling of dread before the Future Shock Season Champion makes her debut.  The past couple of seasons, we've been lucky (Marla, The Rudos).  Before that, we had Desirae Kain and April Evans, so just because you won the season doesn't mean you're going to be a success.  A lot of that hinges on tonight- if Lilly makes her debut a win, the odds of her career being a successful one go way higher, and vice versa on a loss.  For Shaelin, it's proving the doubters (i.e. me) wrong.  Many figure she'll never win so much as a match in FFW.  Pulling it off against the Season 12 Champion will be a hell of a way to prove people wrong.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: But who the hell are we kidding here?  Shaelin is bad in the ring, and utterly clueless about her place in this industry outside of it.  This is going to be an easier fight than Lilly had in Future Shock, and there is no way in hell Ryan Shef's sister is going to choke in her debut.

PROJECTED WINNER: Lilly Sheffield

WHAT'S AT STAKE: Mercy made a couple mistakes in her intro matcha against Candi, but ended up with the win, and certainly has a promising chance to be something in FFW.  Meanwhile, Crystal eagerly awaits the chance to match last year's win total in her first contest of 2014.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: Of all the influx of new talent that is coming into FFW, Vargas is one of the most hyped and for good reason- she is an extremely decorted veteran.  And while we've all seen minor-league success fail to transfer to FFW before, Mercy is so far doing all the right things.  Look for her to pound the hapless Hate into oblivion here, and move to 2-0.

PROJECTED WINNER: Mercedes Vargas

WHAT'S AT STAKE: More than you think.  A lot of people discount these newcomer four-way matches as simply filler, but in truth, this is how we seperate the women wrestlers from girls who want to roll around a ring.   Impress here, and suddenly your name is on that coveted TV Title contenders list. Also, Summers and Lindsay seem to have a bot of a past with each other.  And I don't think it involved sipping milkshakes down at the drug store.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: Two of these women have yet to so much as get in the ring, which always makes for a bit of a tough call.  Hope surprised in the last multiple person match she was in, but I just have a feeling she's going to be outclassed here.  Figgins fancies herself a daredevil... which seems to bite one in the ass more often than not in a match like this.  It seems Neveah's already got a win over Abigail from before FFW, and is the only one of these four with a win yet in FFW.  So while I'm a bit concerned about buying into her own hype, I'll go ahead and take at least a free sample.

PROJECTED WINNER: Neveah Summers

WHAT'S AT STAKE: For Tifa, this is the kind of match that only really matters if you lose.  Still, it's always fun to beat up a Loveheart, and she's getting her PPV salary to do it.  And it's a chance for her to live up to her award.  You wanna be the one to watch, Tifa?  Make us watch you.  Show us all you can do against a defenseless opponent.  Should be entertaining.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: With all due respect to Tifa, I'm not wasting my time on this.  So instead... here's my clients daughter Theresa to give her analysis.

SEVEN YEAR OLD GIRL ANALYSIS: Tifa will kill her, duh. Now give me my ice cream back before I tell Mom.

PROJECTED WINNER: Tifa Heafy

WHAT'S AT STAKE: Like the fatal four-way earlier, this provides two newcomers a huge chance to move up and stand out.  But it goes beyond that- this shit's personal.  Remember, going into Episode 3 of Future Shock Season 12, Laine's fate was on the wall.  She played Riddick for a complete sucker, chained her to the ropes, won immunity by countout, and Riddick was sent packing in her place.  Adira's wanted revenge ever since, and even though the fans denied her the chance, now she gets it.  But Laine sprung another sneak attack on her at Velocity, right after Adira's debut win over Hope Dawson.

EXPERT ANALYSIS: I don't think there's too much dispute among the FFW Faithful that Adira's the better wrestler.  But Laine is clearly in her head, and so far, Riddick hasn't acted all that well about it.  If DJ can incite her into doing something hotheaded, the night is going to end badly for her.  If she can keep her cool, her chances go way up.  It all comes down to- is Riddick using these two weeks  to stew, or to prepare? What signs we have suggest Adira's doing the right things, and we'll be seeing her the winner Saturday Night.

PROJECTED WINNER: Adira Riddick

SHOW RANKINGS: Velocity 01.09.14 (Honolulu, Hawaii)

I DON'T CARE WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE.  THIS IS WHAT IT FELT LIKE.

Some days I report the story. Some days I comment on the story.  And some days I fuggin MAKE the story.

Thursday Night was one of those days, where I pulled out my best Gandalf/Leonidas/Black Knight impression and kept people out of that fucking ring to let my client do her job.  That is why I'm bad ass and undefeated in SVW.  I know, it kinda broke down after the match, and Wendy still ended up in the hospital, but she doesn't pay  me overtime, so...

Anyways, show rankings!

1. WENDY BRIESE: As much as I love thumping my chest here, Wendy still wrestled her heart out, and pulled off a huge win over a very tough Easter.  Bonus points to her concentration, which was maintained (along with that Gogoplata) while things went to hell around her.

2. JO MCFARLANE: After nearly three years and almost forty matches, Jo McFarlane finally has a championship belt to call her own, extending her winning streak to five with a phenomenal come-from-behind win over Gabrielle Crimson to win the Future Shock title.  It's always great to watch when a promising young star's potential finally bears fruit.

3. UNDINE: She's facing a different kind of beast at One Night Stand, but The Aquablonde's cemented herself as the favorite for the Ultraviolence Battle Royal with a massive win over Hate and Emma in the Elimination Tables match.  The Aquablonde's stock is yet again rising.

4. AIMEE EASTER: Easter can't feel TOO bad- the last five Pick Your Poisons have now failed.  And it was a good cheatyface strategy if one doesn't account for how awesome Briese's manager is.  Still, Aimee's looking a little bit vulnerable as she heads for the rematch against Eileen, even though Kanna's appearance gives her even more of a numerical advantage.

5. ADIRA RIDDICK: After falling victim to unfortunate circumstances in Future Shock, Adira started her FFW career in earnest at Velocity, and while she was shaky at first, she rebounded nicely for a convincing win over Hope.  Of course, DJ Laine's cheapshot afterwards isn't going to sit well with her, but that's for One Night Stand to determine.

6. GABRIELLE CRIMSON: They're called High-Risk moves for a reason, as poor Gabby found out the hard way when Jo busted out FFW's favorite anti-air defense- the kip-up jumping cutter.  It's a disappointing end Gabby's initial title run, but it's probably not the end to the meteoric start of her career.  You know a rematch and a shwodown with Ignis will be coming up soon in her future.

7. EMMA MACNAMARA: You have to give Emma credit for her awareness, capitaliing on Rebecka Hate's tunnel vision to pick up a relatively easy elimination.  But once one on one with Undine, things went downhill really quickly, and Emma ended up eating wood in a far more painful way than her rival did.

8. MERCEDES VARGAS: Mercedes went for a bit of overkill on Candi, and it nearly cost her everything, but, with a bit of help from her manager (who's not as awesome as me, obviously), she got through it, and capitalized off of Candi's own error in devastating fashion to pick up her first win.

9. NEVEAH SUMMERS: Yes, she dominant and made it look easy.  But it was Destiny Loveheart, for crying out loud, so let's not go crowning her yet.  We'll know more about Neveah truly after One Night Stand.

10. REBECKA HATE: Hate's under a ton of pressure right now, given that she's a champion in SVW and needing to uphold that level in both companies.  And it's understandable that someone who's under that much pressure and not accustomed to it would make an error, but that was a big error that cost her a chance for a huge victory.  Being out ONS may be a good chance for her to get her head on straight.

11. CANDI: Candi, Candi, Candi, Candi.  I love you, but the fact of the matter is, you can't AFFORD exclamation points.  So when the opportunity comes to get a win, you need to take it when you can, and not put a woman like Mercedes Vargas up on a turnbuckle.  Just a bad mistake, and if Candi makes anoher one, she'll be kissing Valentina's feet in two weeks.

12. HOPE DAWSON: Hope put up  better fight than I'd expected against Adira, but it's still obvious that this woman has a long way to go, and it's going to be even longer if she can't keep her focus up on a day to day basis.  Having the webmaster- effectively FFW's main official PR guy (I'm the main unofficial PR guy, of course), doesn't help matters.

13. DESTINY LOVEHEART: FOUR!  Four more matches left on her contract... Ah ah ah!

SERAFINA DECARO
2013 Record: 8-8
Little did anyone know that when Serafina won the No Surrender Championship back in Steptember 2012, it would turn into the longest singles championship reign in company history, but that's exactly what Serafina had by the time she lost her title to Tara Thunder in May.  The back half of the year wasn't as successful, with her struggling in both KO/TO and Sudden Impact, but her historical title reign can't be overlooked.

JENNIFER WILLIAMS
2013 Record: 7-8
Jenny kicked off 2013 with a bang- beating Lightning in the first show of the year to capture the Television Championship.  With defenses against Jodie Gray and Kelly McGuffin, Jenny alsoput herself into Evolution contendership with a huge win over Eileen Amaro.  She begins 2014 in that contention, hoping to earn a shot after One Night Stand.

KATE STEELE
2013 Record: 7-15
Nobody got in the ring as much as Kate Steele did, and although she hardly had the best W/L record, she faced a positive murderer's row of opponents, and narrowly lost most matches.   Of course, her highlight came when she shocked everyone and won the six-woman scramble match at Unstoppable to claim the Ultraviolence Championship.

PENNY BUCHANAN
2013 Record: 13-6
Penny rivals with Misty for most improved wrestler of the year.  She went from losing to the likes of Payton St. Pierre to powerful, destructive wins over Kate Steele, Undine, and Bounce & Pounce.  She even managed to carry April Evans to a few wins in tag matches.  If Penny improves as much in 2014 as she did in 2013, she'll be in FFW Championship contention when the calendar changes.

LIGHTNING
2013 Record: 10-7
Lightning made history in July when she and Aimee won the Unity Championships, and Lightning became just the third double champion in FFW history.  Of course, that means she had already won a champion- winning the TV title back in June.  She lost both belts in a three week span in November, but still managed title reigns of four and five months with the belts, and now is an emerging factor in the new Trios Division.

ISABELLA PAZZINI
2013 Record: 4-4-1
Makes you wonder where Isabella would have finished had she not retired after Unstoppable IV.  She ended her memorable career in equally memorable fashion, surrendering her Championship at Relentless after an eight month reign- and a total of thirteen months with the FFW Championship in her career.  Her final match against Wendy was a memorable one as well, winning the Match of the Year.

AIMEE EASTER
2013 Record: 12-3
It's not often when FFW Year-End Awards are foregone conclusion, but Aimee's pickup of Future SHock Rookie of the Year was certainly one- ironic, considering her negative dispisition towards the competition.  She also picked up Most Hated, another no surprise, considering her smug attitude, and the fact that she's always plotting something devious.  That deviousness has given her two titles- the Unity and the Evolution, the latter coming in a deconstruction of poor Eileen Amaro that had to be seen to be believed.

EILEEN AMARO
2013 Record: 8-4
Eileen started the year off on a five match winning streak, including a dominating performance in the Chase for the Crown and capitalizing it to her first ever Title reign. She also took Tara Thunder to the limit in a No Surrender-style match, and picked apart Kate Steele and Jenny Williams, the latter coming in a title defense.  Oh, and she proved she has one mother of a temper, as Aimee Easter was loathe to find out at the end of the year.

WENDY BRIESE
2013 Record: 9-1
Had Wendy not sat out injured hte first three months (and two PPVs), she may have had a chance at the #1 spot.  Such as it is, you can't get much closer to perfect than Wendy's year, which saw her knock off five former FFW Champions en route to claiming the FFW Championship for herself.  She starts the new year with a nasty schedule, so it's tough to see her being nearly as flawless as she was in 2013.

VALERIE LAMB
2013 Record: 6-5-1
FFW's Femme Fatale of the Year is also #1 in the 2013 installment of the X-Travaganza, and its tough to argue against it.  All six PPV's saw Val as either in the Main Event or the Pre-main, and she finally claimed her first ever company top belt, pinning Isabella Pazzini to become the FFW Champion, which she held for four months.  2013 was certainly the Year of the Lamb, and that is why Val wins the #1 spot.
